Self-management

Self-management means:

  • Two people walking in parkhaving the information, skills, and confidence to take charge of your medical needs, your everyday roles and responsibilities, and your emotions.
  • being able to do the daily tasks you need to do in order to live well with one or more chronic conditions. 
  • you are able to live a healthy life with your chronic health condition.

What Does Self-management Involve?

Self-management involves a number things including:

  1. Finding out more about your condition. Information can be powerful and can help you understand what you are living with and how to manage it well. Learn more about long COVID.
  2. Learning new skills to help you manage your health. There are many things you might be able to do to help manage long COVID symptoms. Learn more about the specific skills you might be able to use to help manage your long COVID symptoms.
  3. Working in partnership with your healthcare team. Knowing who your healthcare team is, is an important first step. For some people it might be their doctor, or nurse practitioner, or pharmacist, or other. Building trust with your healthcare team, and working in partnership with your healthcare team can give you the confidence you need to self-manage your care.
  4. Choosing what is right for you. You know what is right for you. Self-management is about taking control or your health.
