Introducing our Community Research Representative!
About the Community Research Representative Role
Lung Saskatchewan is committed to ensuring the voices of those with a lived experience of lung disease are represented in its research investments. In 2021, the role of Community Research Representative was launched to bring this perspective to the research Lung Saskatchewan supports. Alongside the Board of Directors and Leadership Team, the Community Research Representative will participate in the setting of Lung Sask’s areas of research focus, and the establishment of research priorities, and will participate in the review process of applications for research funding.
Our New Representative - Pam Lavoie
Pam retired in 2020 following a 42-year career in nursing. Pam worked as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) and Registered Nurse (RN) in both Saskatchewan and British Columbia during her career.
Pam is quite familiar with lung disease having been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in 2019. Pam has always had a keen interest in research. Following a diagnosis of thyroid cancer in 2004, Pam had the opportunity to participate as a patient in a research project funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that was investigating familial DNA links to cancer.
In retirement Pam is enjoying the freedom to pursue activities like bowling, yoga, and walking her grand ‘fur-babies’ and is excited to be joining Lung Saskatchewan in the role of Community Research Representative. She hopes her nursing career experience and personal experiences will be beneficial and will bring a fresh perspective to the research Lung Saskatchewan is investing in.
Welcome Pam!
