Wood Burning Fire Pits

ENJOY THE FIRE. NOT THE SMOKE.

There are ways we can enjoy a fire without smoke impacting our breathing.

Many of us don’t realize the effects that the smoke from our wood burning fire pits and fire places have on their health and affect the community around us. A child with asthma can't play outside, a senior with COPD has to increase their medication and is unable to work in their garden. We may have neighbours we don't even know that could be impacted, blocks away.

Healthier options for fueling a fire pit are natural gas or propane. From an ecological standpoint, both fuels are clean-burning, which means that the harmful emissions and toxins emitted during combustion are minimal. Both give off significantly less CO and COand certainly less exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5), which is an air pollutant that is a concern for people's health when levels in the air are high.
