The most commonly reported adverse reactions are:

• cough
• irritation of the mouth or throat
• headache
• nausea
• muscle cramps

Indacaterol maleate is a long-acting beta2-agonist for use as a long-term, once-daily maintenance bronchodilator. It relaxes the muscles in the walls of the small air passages in the lungs. This helps open up the airways for 24 hours, making it easier for air to get in and out and prevent symptoms, such as wheezing and shortness of breath.

Indacaterol has a rapid onset of action and a long duration of action.

• Indacaterol maleate contains the same black box warning as other long-acting beta2-agonists. Long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonists increase the risk of asthma-related death. This warning is based on a large U.S. study of salmeterol and is considered a class effect.
• Indacaterol is not indicated for use in asthma.
• This medication is not for treatment of sudden, severe symptoms of COPD.  A rescue inhaler should be used in these cases.

Do not use if you have an allergy to indacaterol.

Use indacaterol with caution if you have:

• heart problems, such as rapid or irregular heart beat or abnormal electrical signal called “prolongation of the QT interval”
• high blood pressure
• epilepsy
• thyroid problems
• diabetes

Drug Interactions:

• antidepressants
• other medications similar to indacaterol
• medicines that decrease the level of potassium in your blood
• beta-blockers used in the treatment of hypertension or other cardiac problems (e.g. propranolol) or in the treatment of glaucoma (e.g. timolol)
