Primary Care and the Heart of COPD
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are common in people with COPD, and their presence is associated with increased risk for hospitalization, longer length of stay, and all-cause and CVD-related mortality.

About the Presenters
Dr. Christopher Licskai, FRCPC, is an Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, at the University of Western Ontario. He is currently on staff as a Pulmonary Medicine Consultant at London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Healthcare in London, Ontario. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in June of 1993. Dr. Licskai completed his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine in Toronto. His major research interest is airways disease and clinical practice guideline implementation.
Dr. Robert McKelvie attended the University of Western Ontario, in London Ontario, completing a BSc, MSc, and MD degrees. He subsequently trained in Hamilton and received a PhD from McMaster University. Dr. McKelvie is presently a Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Western University in London, Ontario. He formerly was a Professor of Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he ran the heart failure and cardiac rehabilitation programs. At present he is also a Professor Emeritus at McMaster University. At Western Dr. McKelvie is involved in the Heart Failure Program and the St. Joseph’s Cardiac Rehabilitation and Secondary Prevention Program.
