Are you ready for summer? Here's to embracing longer days and a season filled with limitless opportunities!

May and June have been bustling with excitement and significant milestones, such as:

Honouring the remarkable contributions of an incredible volunteer and long-time donor, Karen Davis. Her unwavering support has been invaluable to our mission.
Concluding our record-breaking Breathe Strong raffle, which surpassed all expectations and set new benchmarks for our fundraising efforts.
Celebrating the outstanding achievements of our dedicated staff member, Jennifer May, who received a well-deserved and exciting recognition for her exceptional contributions.
Welcoming three new community members to our Board of Directors, each bringing fresh perspectives and expertise to help guide our organization.

These accomplishments reflect the hard work and dedication of our lung family, and the steadfast support of our community. Together, we continue to improve lung health, one breath at a time.

Lung diseases and threats to lung health do not discriminate, and neither do we. We are dedicated to fostering an environment of Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI), within our organization and the communities we serve. We take pride in working to protect and support all people with lungs.

The National Indigenous Peoples Day observed on June 21st celebrates the heritage, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada. At Lung Saskatchewan, we work to honour the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, specifically addressing calls to action #18 – 24, #57, and #69. We will continue to reflect, learn, and seek vital changes to advance truth and reconciliation in our organization and community.

Health Care Professionals, did you know the Professional Education Portal provides links to research articles, announcements, studies, webinars, and other news updates? Your time invested reading these articles and watching the videos can be logged towards recertification and continuing education. Our Inspired Breathing recorded events will be available on the portal for on-demand viewing, as well as RESPTREC webinar series presentations.

Please note our summer office hours are changing. From now until September 1st, our office building will be closed on Fridays, giving our staff the opportunity to make the most of the beautiful Saskatchewan summer.

Lung Saskatchewan Names Primary Education and Collaboration Space After Long Time Supporter

We were so pleased to recently celebrate the naming of our large meeting room at our provincial office, to the Davis Education and Collaboration Space in honour of long time volunteer, donor and supporter Karen Davis.

Karen’s roots in lung health not only go back to her days as the Dietician for Asthma Camp, but also as a leadership volunteer at the provincial and national level. Karen and her husband Casey have been tremendous supporters of Lung Saskatchewan for many years, as they too have family and friends with lived lung health experience.

Their generosity and dedication to ongoing education and collaboration in order to drive impact, are truly an inspiration!

Breathe Strong Raffle Winners Announced

Our Lung Ambassador, Ralph Harris, Cindy Erixon from WestWorld Tours & CAA Travel Saskatchewan, and our President and CEO, Erin Kuan, made the draws for the Breathe Strong Raffle and delivered some exciting news. Congratulations to all the winners!

Thank you for supporting Lung Saskatchewan. All funds raised will go towards supporting vital research, advocacy, education, and patient support programs to improve lung health in Saskatchewan. 

Our 2024-2025 Board of Directors Announced

Please join us in welcoming our newest leadership volunteers who recently joined the Lung Saskatchewan Board of Directors.

One June 7th we were proud to welcome Matthew Flath in the role of Treasurer, Leon Ferguson in the role of Director, and Darshana Lanke as our first Youth Representative Director. Lung Saskatchewan is incredibly proud to have volunteer leadership that advises on and reflects the diverse and complex needs of the communities we serve.

Lung Saskatchewan Congratulates the 2023 – 2024 Solutions Program Grant Recipients

Lung Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF) are pleased to announce the successful recipients of the 2023 – 2024 Solution Program whose projects hold a Lung Health Focus.

SHRF's Solutions Program aims to mobilize Saskatchewan's research ecosystem by focusing and coordinating diverse skills and perspectives to address timely health challenges.

Jennifer May Receives Inaugural Brenda Barootes Award for Leadership in Public Affairs

We're thrilled to announce that Jennifer May, our Vice President of Health Promotion & Government Relations, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Brenda Barootes Award for Leadership in Public Affairs! Congratulations, Jennifer, on your remarkable achievement!

Nominated by her peers for this award, Jennifer has dedicated her career to improving and protecting the lung health of Saskatchewan residents through her advocacy efforts.

kNOw Vaping & Youth4Change Presentations at the 2024 National Physical Health and Education Conference

The Health Promotion team presented at the 2024 National Physical Health and Education Conference in Saskatoon, we're they outlined the successes with our Youth4Change and kNOw Vaping programs over the years.

Lung Saskatchewan has developed vaping resources for Grades 4-6 and 7-9 classrooms. Titled “kNOw Vaping”, there are five chapters and each chapter includes a video and activities.

The resources are adaptable, easy to implement, online-friendly, and available in French and English!

How Training Learned from Asthma Camp Saved My Life

"In 1982, I was seven years old, and the Lung Association (now Lung Saskatchewan) offered day camps for children with asthma. The camp had training classes. We didn’t think of them as classes. What we didn’t know at the time, was these exercises were keeping us calm and giving our lungs a chance to fight spasms and overcome the asthma attack."

"Fast forward to 1994, I was golfing with friends when I had an anaphylaxis reaction. I know three things saved my life. First, my ability to use my training from the Lung Association Asthma Camp as a child. Second, my girlfriend stayed calm and got me to the hospital in record-breaking time, and third, the fantastic team at the Royal University Hospital that literally ran and didn’t give up to save my life. The doctors and specialists were shocked that I made it."

Second Annual Golf Tournament in Support of Lung Saskatchewan

Join us for a fun-filled day at the Second Annual Golf Fundraiser, hosted by our Lung Ambassador, Ralph Harris, at the Hidden Hills of Shellbrook Golf Course!

"Young Canadian vapers are as likely to report breathing problems as their smoker peers"

Physicians for a Smoke Free Canada recently posted an article about "Young Canadian vapers are as likely to report breathing problems as their smoker peers". The post highlights findings from the study including:

"Both vaping and smoking increase the likelihood of respiratory symptoms and by about the same amount. Overall, they found that those who vaped or smoked in the past 30 days were about 50% more likely to experience these respiratory problems, and those who did both or who vaped intensively were twice as likely."

The Caring Breaths Financial Assistance Program sponsored by Conexus Credit Union is a reimbursement program designed to compliment other established financial assistance programs in the province of Saskatchewan.

Lung transplant recipients and primary caregivers
People with lung disease and primary caregivers
People applying for partial radon mitigation reimbursement

Lung Helpline

Our Lung Helpline is a free, confidential lung information service, managed by Certified Respiratory Educators.

Educators are available to answer your questions about breathing and lung diseases Monday - Friday from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
