Lung Saskatchewan extends heartfelt congratulations to the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF) for two decades of collaborative innovation in funding impactful health research in Saskatchewan. In 2018, Lung Saskatchewan and SHRF entered into a partnership with a commitment to invest one million dollars over five years. Since then, we have successfully funded 15 research projects that tackle pressing lung health issues in our province. We are proud of this partnership, which magnifies our impact, effectively doubling our ability to fuel vital research initiatives each year. Kudos to the board and staff of SHRF!

We recently had a water main break in our office, prompting the temporary closure of the building. Rest assured, our work continues and we're staying agile to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of our programs, services, and impact.

Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Meeting

Wednesday, January 17th at 1:30 p.m. (CST)

Join us for a conversation with Exercise Therapist Tristan Etcheverry to discuss the importance of exercise for individuals managing lung diseases, and share insights on pulmonary rehab with a question and answer session after the presentation.

Because members attending are from all across Saskatchewan, Tristan will also be showcasing the resources and support Lung Saskatchewan provides for all in the province.

"My stepdad, Rod, was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 57 and sadly passed away within two months of his diagnosis. I was diagnosed with lung cancer five years later, and that's when I connected the dots - we had both lived in the same home!

"In October 2019, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. I had no other risk factors that could have possibly led to the diagnosis since I had never smoked and hadn’t been exposed to any environmental factors known to cause lung cancer. It was at that point that they asked me if I had ever heard of radon.

The worst phone call was when I found out I had to do chemotherapy. I thought the cancer had spread and I couldn't promise my kids that I would be okay."

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING

Local Skate Shop Raises $400 for Lung Saskatchewan in December

StickFix Saskatoon pledged $3 from every skate sharpen and $10 from every stick fixed in the month of December, resulting in a remarkable total of $400 raised.

The initiative aimed not only to support Lung Saskatchewan, but also to emphasize sustainability by keeping sticks out of landfills and remaining in the game.

Treasurer Wanted

Lung Saskatchewan is currently seeking a volunteer to join its dynamic provincial Board of Directors in the role of Treasurer.

Lung Saskatchewan works with a variety of communities in Saskatchewan and across Canada, investing in research, advocating for changes to protect lung health, and providing education and support to patients, caregivers, and health care professionals.

Caring Breaths Financial Assistance Program

The Caring Breaths Financial Assistance Program sponsored by Conexus Credit Union is a reimbursement program designed to compliment other established financial assistance programs in the province of Saskatchewan.

People with lung disease and primary caregivers

Our support groups are a platform for patients and caregivers to ask questions, share their stories, as well as provide emotional and moral support to one another.

Coordinated by Certified Respiratory Health Professionals from Lung Saskatchewan, we provide timely information and resources to guide you through tough times.

We offer eight support groups including:

Lung Helpline

Our Lung Helpline is a free, confidential lung information service, managed by Certified Respiratory Educators.

Educators are available to answer your questions about breathing and lung diseases Monday - Friday from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
