{contact.email_greeting}, As we step into the New Year, I’m inspired by the fresh opportunities it brings to create a healthier future for Saskatchewan. At Lung Saskatchewan, we remain steadfast in our mission to improve lung health through education, advocacy, and research. Together, we can make 2025 a year of progress and hope for everyone impacted by lung disease. One of the most important steps we can take to prevent lung cancer is reducing exposure to radon, the second leading cause of the disease. In 2024, I’m proud to share that 4,448 Saskatchewan residents took steps towards testing their home for radon—an incredible leap toward creating safer environments for families. Let’s continue to build awareness about the importance of testing and mitigation in 2025. Our Saskatchewan Quit Smoking Challenge has been a tremendous success so far, with over 420 participants committing to quitting or cutting back on smoking since its launch in November. The challenge runs until February 14th, and it’s not too late to join. Even more heartening is the growth of our Sask Quits Facebook community, now 800 members strong supporting each other on their quit journey. We’ve also been expanding our educational reach. Our “Let’s Talk Lungs” podcast has now aired its second episode, with the third just around the corner. Whether you’re a patient, caregiver, healthcare professional, researcher, or simply interested in lung health, these conversations are designed to inform and inspire, tackling topics that matter to all of us. On the advocacy front, we continue to push for policies that prioritize lung health. This includes monitoring the implications of the Big Tobacco settlement and advocating for provincial governments to allocate funds from the $32.5 billion Big Tobacco settlement toward lung health initiatives. This month, we’re especially proud to highlight the work of Tina Campbell, one of our incredible board members. Tina’s efforts in tuberculosis education and advocacy are making a significant impact in communities across Saskatchewan. Her dedication exemplifies the heart of our mission—improving lung health, one breath at a time. As we reflect on these achievements, I want to thank you—our supporters, volunteers, and partners—for standing with us. None of this would be possible without your commitment to lung health. Oh, and keep an eye out—we’ve got something fun and a little feisty coming your way this spring. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it! Erin Kuan President & CEO |
