{contact.email_greeting}, With the arrival of the holiday season, I want to take a moment to share a heartfelt message of gratitude for your ongoing support of Lung Saskatchewan and the people we serve. Two days after Christmas in 2023, Luana Hiebert received the life-changing news that she had Stage 4 lung cancer. An active woman who loved hiking, biking, and traveling, Luana was shocked to learn that radon—the second leading cause of lung cancer—was silently present in her home at levels far above Health Canada’s safety limit. A 2024 Evict Radon National study revealed that 1 in 3 homes in Saskatchewan have radon levels above Health Canada’s recommended limit. Radon is a radioactive gas from the natural breakdown of uranium, and testing your home is the only way to know your radon levels. Luana’s courage in sharing her story is nothing short of inspiring. Her openness sheds light on the dangers of radon exposure and the critical need for testing our homes. We were happy to introduce Luana to Kerri Tucker and Christine Elliott, two of our Radon Ambassadors (and lung cancer survivors). Having faced similar challenges, Kerri and Christine are offering Luana a sense of connection and community as she goes through her journey. These stories and connections remind us that no one has to face this fight alone. We are grateful to all our ambassadors for courageously sharing their stories and helping us advance our mission of improving lung health. At Lung Saskatchewan, we are honoured to support people like Luana on their lung health journey. Whether that is raising awareness about radon, helping with mitigation costs, or providing vital resources, we are here to stand alongside those facing lung disease in our province. Are you looking for a meaningful way to give this holiday season? You can make a difference in the lives of the 1 in 5 people in Saskatchewan living with lung disease.
