{contact.email_greeting},
I hope this edition of the Pulmonary Post finds you enjoying the sunshine of summer and opportunities to create beautiful memories. As we approach the last few weeks of August, the return to school and routines, and harvest, may you make the most of each and every day! We are pleased to share with you the Lung Saskatchewan 2021 Annual Report. This year our report is online-only which presents a significant costs savings, and, has the additional bonus of being able to showcase some amazing video resources and social media produced in 2021. Our success is because of the ongoing support of you – our community of donors, volunteers, health care professionals, researchers and of course those at the heart of our cause with a lived experience of lung disease.
Every year on August 1, ‘World Lung Cancer Day' is observed across the globe. Lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer death causing more deaths than colorectal, pancreatic, and breast cancers combined. This is why at Lung Saskatchewan, we remain committed and passionate about improving lung health through the work that we do. I would like to congratulate all of the participants of the Saskatchewan Quits Personal Challenge and cheer on all of the Saskatchewan Quits members who are on their quit journey!
Did you know that all ten provincial governments have been involved in a lawsuit with Big Tobacco Companies for over a decade? Provincial governments are in negotiations with the tobacco industry to settle healthcare cost recovery lawsuits against tobacco companies. Costs of smoking-related healthcare should be the responsibility of the tobacco industry and not our citizens and tax payers. We have a historic one-time opportunity to hold Big Tobacco accountable, and we need your help! Read below for more information and be sure to visit StopBigTobacco.ca to make your voice heard.
Every September, emergency rooms across Canada see a spike in admissions for children with asthma a few weeks after children head back to school. We are pleased to offer a webinar titled ‘Asthma Control: Avoiding the September Spike’ with Cinde Little (Respiratory Therapist & Educator) on September 8th as a part of the Lung Life Webinar Series. See below for more details and how to register.
For Health Professionals, we are pleased to be offering the next webinar in the RESPTREC Webinar Series titled "Kids Are Not Little Adults: Differences in Diagnosis and Management of Pediatric Versus Adult Asthma".
