Nothing beats the fresh feeling and newness that comes with Spring! As we celebrate the arrival of the new season, the team at Lung Saskatchewan has also been incredibly busy!

Our Breathe Strong Raffle (are you ready to win BIG?) is now live and the Lung Life Webinar Series continues with an Asthma & Exercise webinar this month. We are also getting ready to host a private briefing on Income Tax Reduction and Estate Tax Elimination. Likewise, plans are in earnest for the Saskatchewan Quits program and Inspired Breathing Conference coming up in May and June.

We were proud to celebrate Green Shirt Day on April 7th, in honour of Logan Boulet from the Humbolt Broncos, to create awareness for organ donation. Many people in the Lung Saskatchewan family, like Ralph Harris, have received new lungs and have been given a new lease on life because of Canadians who chose to sign their organ donation cards. Ralph is a Saskatchewan resident who recently underwent a double lung transplant after he was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. Thank you for sharing your story, Ralph! We kindly ask that you consider registering for organ donation to save lives.

Ralph Harris was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2016, a disease that had earlier claimed the lives of his sister and father. His sister Karen had needed a double lung transplant but never received new lungs and unfortunately passed away in 2014...

Organ Donation

Many people in the Lung Sask family have received new lungs and received a new lease on life because of Canadians who chose to sign their organ donation cards.

On April 7th the Lung Sask staff wore green to recognize Organ Donation Awareness for #GreenShirtDay in memory of Logan Boulet and in honour of all of Lung Sask transplant donors and recipients.

Lung Sask and GlaxoSmithKline have a long history of working together on activities to improve the lives of those with lung disease. This new education webinar series – Lung Life, is to empower those living with lung disease to live better. Upcoming topics include Avoiding the Asthma September Spike, PhysioYoga, and smoking cessation.

During tax season, we at Lung Saskatchewan wanted to let you know of ways that you may be eligible for rebates on the costs of your radon test and mitigation.

Claim Your Radon Test on Your Income Tax

Great news! If you have tested your home for radon, you may be able to claim the cost of the radon test on your income tax. In order to qualify, you must also qualify for the "work-space-in-the-home expenses" or be self-employed.

The Canadian Revenue Agency has confirmed that an employee (salaried and commission) may deduct a portion of the cost for radon testing (for example, a radon test kit or the services of a radon measurement professional) as a work-space-in-the-home expense, as such costs are incurred for the maintenance of the home and this same inclusion is extended to a self-employed individual.

Saskatchewan Home Renovation Tax Credit

Did you know that if you had radon reduction in your home between October 1, 2020 and December 31, 2022, you may be eligible to claim your expenses under the Government of Saskatchewan’s Home Renovation Tax Credit?

The Provincial Government’s Home Renovation Tax Credit allows home owners to claim a 10.5% tax credit on up to $20,000 of eligible home renovation expenses. The eligible expenses include the cost of labour, professional services, and the building materials required for radon reduction measures.

Sask Long COVID App

Do you know that you can still participate in the Sask Long COVID Study, even if you have not been diagnosed with COVID-19?

We are looking for volunteers with various experiences with COVID-19. ALL adults 18 and over are invited to participate. We are in search of volunteers who are experiencing symptoms of Long COVID; had COVID-19 but are NOT experiencing Long COVID symptoms; and those who have NOT had COVID-19 to take part in this study.

The Government of Saskatchewan wants to learn more about how virtual care is working for you. If you haven’t used virtual care yet, they also want to hear why not.

There are several ways to provide input, such as voting in polls, completing a survey, and sharing a story or idea. Participation opportunities will be open until April 30th, 2022.
